My sister contends that you must pay tithes or you are cursed with a curse...I have been praying and asking God to show me if I must pay tithes...I believe in giving to people..I believe in giving to the church as well because I understand that expenses must be paid...When I have tried to pay tithes in the past I always ran into financial problems...When I give to people in need I see rewards and I feel better too..Do you have a church near me in Toledo, Ohio....

Her thinking is base on the traditions of men devised to take a financial gain over you. For your sister only quotes the very Scripture in which the Holy Spirit rebukes the sinful priests and the sons of Levi during Malachi time for robbing God of His tithes and offerings. As it is written, "It is you, O priests, who show contempt for My Name" (Malachi 1:6 NIV). And again, "this admonition is for you, O priests. If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor My Name, says the Lord Almighty, I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessing" (Malachi 2:1-2 NIV). Yet, today these sinful gospel peddlers have convinced many that these verses in Malachi 3 refers to the givers of the tithe rather than the receivers of the tithe, the leaders of the religious community, the sons of Levi. And today these same sinful gospel peddlers, who have self-appointed themselves as tithe collectors are committing the same sins as the priests and sons of Levi in Malachi by keeping the majority of your tithes for themselves and enriching their own families. After years of collecting tithe money from the people under the pretense that God has given them this authority these gospel peddlers turn their riches over to their families. And these gospel peddlers’ sons and daughters continue this doctrine of the evil one, collecting ten percent of your money for themselves.

Now, the question here is not will God curse you for not giving these money hunger self-appointed preachers ten percent of your money. But will God punish you for giving to some person claiming to represent God on this evil and adulterous planet, when you realize tithing is a lie? Or will God punish you for not caring for His poor? Your answer is in Matthew 25. For if these self-proclaimed gospel peddlers represent God in this evil society then why is it that God says in Matthew 25 that the poor and needy of this world represent Him? I mean, most of the gospel peddlers I know and see are not poor, and they live well compared to those whom they preach to.
