Dear Julio,
Your Question(s): "There is one scripture that is not clear to me and is HEBREWS 7:8 where [It] is said that now Jesus receive the tithe".
My Answer(s): Julio, please remember that all Scripture interprets itself. Do not just listen to your pastor, write down any Bible verses given in sermons; and use them in your personal Bible study and at home with God, remembering to always pray before studying for understanding, for God is faithful (Acts 17:11 and Philip. 3:14-16). I must say I find it strange that these gospel peddlers would use the very Scripture, which proves their own private interpretation on tithing, is wrong. For Hebrews 8:13 clearly says, the "first obsolete" meaning the old covenant is "obsolete" which included tithing and those who were commanded to collect the tithe. Let us remember, what the book of Hebrews was written for; that is, to prove Christ Jesus is our ONLY High Priest changing the law and priesthood from that time and forever (Hebrews 1:1-13 and 8:1-2). And that the Levitical priesthood was null and void, including the old covenant, which served the copy (Hebrews 3:1-6 and Hebrews 5). For now we have One who is greater than the angels, Moses, and Abraham, and a more better promise and covenant through Christ Jesus our Mediator (1 Tim. 2:5).
Now, If your minister is trying to say Hebrews 7:8 gives him authority to collect tithes for Christ, then ask him why do the Spirit says in Hebrews 5:4, "no man takes this honor to himself". Hebrews proves that "no man" on this planet have authority to collect tithes except they be under the law, and then they must be a son of Levi (Hebrews 7:5). Hebrews 7:7-8 says, "7Now beyond all contradiction the lesser is blessed by the better 8Here mortal men receive tithes, but there he receives them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives" (NIV).
These verses tell us that Christ who is a Priest according to the order of this "Melchizedek", is greater than Abraham and the sons of Levi; they do not say today Christ must receive these same tithes as the sons of Levi did. Your minister has misinterpreted these verses for his on financial gain. For even if these verses said Christ should receive tithes today under the new covenant, then are these gospel peddlers claiming to represent Christ? For Christ says, the poor represent Him on this planet not your minister (Matthew 25). I will have more on this in the future on my site under "Hebrews 7 Explained".May God continue to bless you and your household in all you may do. Remember you are not cursed for doing good deeds toward your household and those who you know are in need. Give to those who are in need not to gospel peddlers. Amen. Praise God.
In Christ love,
Ron Davis, ministering
