Dear Liza S.,

Your Question: What do I have to do to be saved?

My Answer(s): Thank you for your question, and for visiting my web site. Your question involves one of today’s theology debates, where some believe "once saved always saved". But the Scripture do not support this belief by many Christians, which really dilutes the truth of "being saved". The only ones saved in this present age are those Christians who die fighting the good fight; those who have ran the race within the rules of the race. For as it is written, "I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing" (2 Timothy 4:6-8). Again, it is said by Christ Jesus, "he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations" (Revelation 2:26 NKJV). Please note the key phrases used by the Holy Spirit, "finished the race" and "kept the faith"; and Christ Jesus, "he who overcomes" and "keeps My works until the end". We as Christians must remain in the faith of Christ until the end to be saved. And there are many other Scriptures, which speaks of us as Christians overcoming and persevering after our baptizing into the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Now, back to your question, what do I have to do to be saved? The answer to that question is in Acts 2, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38 NKJV). If you want to be saved then you must repent of your past sins, so they can be forgiven and be baptized, and persevere "until the end". If when you are baptized you receive the Spirit of Christ and His Father then you must keep the faith of Christ until the very end of your life (John 14:23). For if the Spirit of Christ lives in you, then you are Christ’s (Romans 8:9-11).

When Jesus of Nazareth walk this evil and adulterous planet, a young ruler of the time came to Christ, and asked this same question you asked today. This young rich ruler question was "what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (Luke 18:18 NKJV). Or in the Living Bible translation it says, "what shall I do to get to heaven?" These are the same question you asked, "what do I have to do to be saved?" Therefore, you would do well to do these things Jesus tells the young rich ruler after you repent of your sins and be baptized (Luke 18:18-27). Remembering that after Jesus listed some of the commandments of loving our neighbor as ourselves. He told the young rich ruler, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me" (Matthew 19:21 NKJV). This means loving God instead of money and material things, and caring for those in need, the poor. And this is possible with God, for all things are possible with Him (Matthew 19:23-26).

Therefore, I exhort you to repent and be baptized. And whatever you can do to help your family and the poor then do it. Seek to do God’s will in all things. For as long as you submit to the Spirit of Christ and His Father in heaven, until the end, you will be saved (Romans 8:12-14). "Be faithful until death", "for he who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death" (Revelation 2:10-11 NKJV). And be a doer of the word of God and not just a hearer of the word (James 1:21-27). Also, please read my web pages on "Jesus Saves" and the "Poor and Widows". I pray that my God and Father in heaven will bless you and your household with spiritual understanding. Amen. Praise God.

In Christ love,

Ron Davis, minister of Christ
