Dear Fidelis O.,

Your Question: I want to start tithes and offerings. I also do not want to send my tithes and offerings to the wrong person. I am Catholic. Who would you recommend I send these tithes to?

My Answer(s): Thank you Fidelis for visiting my website, and for submitting your comments and questions. Fidelis, I am saying there is NO New Testament commandment for Christians to pay tithes, 10% of your money to anyone. You do not have to tithe to NO person. With that in mind, you ask, who would I recommend you send your money for tithing to? If you want to pay for the upkeep of your congregation then learn how much are these expenses first, and any amount you give should never be an obituary ten percent.

I suggest you help the poor with your money instead, starting from within your own family, and then working outward from your Christian community to your neighborhood and beyond. For it is written, that the Spirit said of those on His right, "Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' ’The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me" (Matthew 25:37-40 NIV). This means your treatment and attitude towards those in need will determine your relationship with God the Father in heaven and His Son, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.

Again, the Spirit says of those on the left, "they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me" (Matthew 25:44-45 NKJV). This Scripture tells us that there is some professing to be Christians, yet refuses to have compassion on those in need. Of these professing Christians, Christ Jesus speaks of these Christians, saying: "Many will say to me in that day. Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in they name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity" (Matthew 7:22-23 KJV). As you can see, these professing Christians did everything to receive praise of men, and have people call them "reverend" except do what Matthew 25 requires of them. But, those in need continue to suffer while these gospel peddlers and their followers build bigger places for their so-called worship services.

I encourage you to read my whole web site on tithes and offerings, and visit my sister site http://www.KEMOnline.org.

Therefore, I exhort you use your money to help the poor and needy. And support those that has as their sole mission is to help the oppressed and downtrodden. But do not give your money to any person peddling the gospel while claiming they represent God in order to extort ten percent of your income for their own ventures. I pray that God give you understanding of His Holy Word. And I pray that God continue to bless you and your household. Amen. Praise God.

In Christ love,

Ron Davis, minister of Christ
